The No Fuss IT Strategy.

How to avoid headaches and not go into a panic when something goes wrong.
1

Get Organised

Use Password Management software or at the very least a password book. Keep software keys or licences safe. ‘Google’ memorable passwords to choose unique passwords. Use two-factor authentication. Have a unique password for banking, email and Apple ID.

2

Site Documents

A business should have a site document. Google Sheets or Excel will do, with one page for each type of IT service being used and any details around it. For example who hosts your website? Who services the EFTPOS machine? Details on any Server setup. This can be created by your IT guy and kept up to date. For less complex setups, keep your notes in your password safe.

WorkPlace Documentation
3

Backup your Data

How will you backup your data? Do you need offsite backups? Do you need a local network backup. Do you need to pay for more Cloud storage. Apple’s Time Machine, does hourly backups and keeps, daily, weekly, monthly copies. In the event your computer failed or was stolen. Your computer or a replacement computer can be restored with all of your data and your applications ready to go again.

4

CyberSecurity

Good antivirus will remind you to do the OS security updates, it will warn you of suspicious activity and will protect more than one device. Your home router may also need updating to patch any security breeches. Use Gmail or Outlook, which has excellent SPAM filtering, which reduces the number of suspicious emails.

Staying Safe Online
Organised Passwords, Documentation, Backups and CyberSecurity means that if something major goes wrong, we can get you up and running again as quickly as possible.

Upgraded Mac

Big Sur was Too Much

Heather, had upgraded her older MacBook Pro 13-inch to Mac OS Big Sur. App Store had been nagging her that this update was available to be installed. However it wasn’t an update it was an Upgrade. Unfortunately the upgrade installed successfully and as it required more from the computer, the computer could barely function. Opening a document took a few minutes, instead of seconds.

Heather’s option was for us to downgrade to the previous Mac OS Catalina which had less system requirements or upgrade her hardware. With maximum RAM for her computer and switching out her slow Hard Drive for an almost 10x faster Solid State drive. Her computer is now running like a dream.  If you have upgraded to Mac OS Big Sur and wish you hadn’t let us know, we can help.

But I need that! 🙁

Kat’s MacBook Air wouldn’t login. She had talked to Apple Support and nothing had worked. She had an important document that she had been working on for the last couple of weeks and it was now due. Of course she had backed up. Unfortunately just not this one document.

We managed to recover her important document from her failing solid state drive. The MacBook Air was repaired and we setup iCloud drive to automatically sync with her desktop and documents folder. This way her data is available in the cloud if anything happens to her computer.

If your computer disappeared, is there anything on it that you’d be unhappy about losing e.g. photos, movies, work, home work, projects. If so talk to us about how you can back up your data.
