St John's Girls' School is an interdenominational Christian school and is steeped with wonderful traditions, strong values, and a warm family spirit. We are located in a park-like setting in the centre of Invercargill.

Our values are the important qualities we strive to live by and demonstrate in the way we go about our work, and in the relationships we have with others in our school.

St John’s was established in 1917 by the St John’s Anglican Church. After the depression, when the Church could no longer support the school, a new school board was formed and St John’s Girls’ School became independent. In 1990 St John’s became an integrated school, retaining its Christian base.

Over the years the school has grown and developed into a high-performing school well-known for its confident, articulate students who have a strong work ethic and who are well-rounded individuals. The small size means that every girl is known by everyone and is cared for. Pastoral care is important and our small class sizes are important to the well-being and education of our girls.

We are proud of St John’s Girls’ School and welcome the opportunity to share it with you. We invite you to visit us and see the school in action.

Room 3 Speech Board Examples and Information

Kia Ora Room 3 Whanau.

I am aware that for some of children and their families this is their first experience with speech exams, and for all Room 3 children, this is the first time putting together a speech board.

For this reason, I have attached some more information, including examples of speech boards to help you get started.

The speech boards are a tool to support the flow of the girl's talk.

We will work on developing our talks once we return to school along with our group poetry. I will send home copies of the girl's poems early next term.

For now your child can work on the board presentation and selecting the book that they would like to take into their exam. It should be a book they know really well and can confidently talk about OR read from. A novel, a special picture book or non fiction book would all be great choices. Please do not permanently stick anything onto the speech boards until it has been checked by me at school.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions I know many of you have had.

I have been on leave with the passing of my Dad, but I look forward to seeing the children once we all return in Term 2.
