 | As "Memory of Government" and "Keeper of the Public Record", National Archives ensures access to, and preservation of, those central government records which have significantly affected the development of New Zealand and the lives and liberties of its citizens. We acquire, describe and preserve these government records as archives, relating to almost every aspect of New Zealand life and the lives of individual New Zealanders, from the beginning of British Government in 1840 to the present day. Archives take many forms including manuscripts, photographs, films, maps, tapes, plans, video recordings, books, paintings, drawings, and prints. National Archives ensures that this documentary heritage is preserved for future generations and made accessible to both academic researchers and the general public. http://www.archives.govt.nz/ |
